Broadway in Your Backyard Performing Arts Camp

8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Grades 4-12 • 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Grades 1-3

July 9-13, 2018

Enjoy a week of fun with Youtheatre at Broadway in Your Backyard Performing Arts Camp! During this week-long day camp, you will work with teaching artists to learn about the performing arts while staging a showcase production for our community to enjoy. In addition, you will participate in age-appropriate performing arts workshops such as creative dramatics, acting, movement, music, improvisation and theatre games led by local teaching artists.  Students in grades 4-12 will also have the opportunity to attend a performance featuring a professional Broadway Music Director and Broadway Performer.

Camp Specifics:

  • The Camp is open to all students going into grades 1-12 for the 2018-2019 School Year.
  • Camp is 8:30 am to 3 pm Monday – Thursday for grades 4-12 and 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. for grades 1-3.
  • We will accept 25 students in grades 1-3, 30 students in grades 4-6 and 30 students in grades 7-12.
  • Camp is from 12:30 p.m.-the end of camp showcase for ALL Campers on Friday, July 13.
  • End of Camp Performance will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 13
  • Everyone participating in the camp MUST be available for ALL camp activities and performances.
  • Each camper in grades 4-12 is expected to bring his or her own nutritious lunch Monday through Thursday.
  • Dinner will be provided on Friday for ALL Campers.
  • A limited number of scholarships are available based upon financial need.

Toledo Opera Camp at Marathon Center for the Performing Arts

9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (Monday through Friday) Ages 11-18

July 16-27, 2018

Participants will immerse themselves in singing, dance, and theatre in this two-week summer intensive experience during which they will mount a fully staged production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance. G&S provides the perfect introduction for young singers into the world of opera.  Each day starts with a vocal warm-up integrated with physical movement to wake up voices and bodies, followed by theatre improvisation games designed to encourage the development of ensemble. The rest of the day will be spent learning staging and music of “Pirates” in small group sessions, ending with our full ensemble learning choreography for the group numbers in the production.

Opera Camp Leaders: Drs. Drake Dantzler and Alta Boover are both teachers and active performers of opera, operetta, musical theatre and concert works.  They’ve performed at venues around the country including Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and here with your very own Toledo Opera. They are both on the Music Faculty at Oakland University in Rochester, MI, and have also both spent several summers on the faculty of the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp.

Camp Specifics:

  • The camp is open to all students aged 11-18.
  • Camp will be from 9am to 3:30pm each day. Everyone participating in the camp must be available for all camp activities.
  • The end of camp performance of The Pirates of Penzance will take place on the last day of camp, Friday, July 27 at 1:30pm. A post-performance reception will follow.
  • Each participant is expected to bring a nutritious lunch Monday through Friday.
  • A limited number of scholarships are available based upon financial need.

Cost: $200

We will have cap of 25 students for the camp.

I fully understand that my child may be included in photos or videos for promotion of the program or production or for archival purposes. I give permission for program staff to photograph or videotape my child and include my child in photographs or videos utilized by The Arts Partnership for its legitimate purposes, including, but not limited to, public purchase and organizational/event promotion. This form will be filed electronically.
